Dresses For Special Occasions

I love to dress up and I think most women do. My closet is full of clothes and hubby told me that I have more than I can wear. He maybe right but I already gave away some of my clothes to some of my relatives. Clothes is one of my weaknesses aside from bags and shoes. Did I say that I prefer wearing a dress than pants? I feel so lady-like every time I wear one. I like the way hubby looks at me when he see me wearing a nice dress. If he likes my dress, he will tell me right away that I look good with it. I think if I will wear one of those Little Black Dresses to a formal gathering, it will make me look slimmer. It will help me hide my love handles that I've been trying to get rid off. I've seen most overweight celebrities wear black dresses during special occasions like weddings. They said that black is a very dramatic color.

When I buy a dress for special occasions I chose Dresses under $100. I am cheap and in most instances, I only buy when it's on sale. One store that fashion lovers need to visit is Top Wedding. This is a very reliable wedding retailer that sells a bunch of special occasion and wedding dresses. They have lots of different colors and styles to chose from. Brides want to look their best on their special day so if you're looking for a bridal gown, don't look farther. got all the things you need like Bridal Headpieces for that very memorable and special day of your life. They have dresses for wedding, graduation and homecoming to name a few. Below are some of their products.

Our Christmas Tree

It was over a week ago when hubby and I put up our Christmas tree. I had to bug him a few times before he agreed to go get the box upstairs, take out the tree and assemble it. My niece Vernice was so excited and she even helped us in putting it up. The three of us put up the branches and when the Christmas tree was already standing, I started decorating it. I really enjoyed putting the Christmas ornaments around the Christmas tree. I used the same decorations that I used last year but I thought I needed to add more flowers.

So when I went to the mall the following week, I bought one dozen orange poinsettias and a tie/ribbon in addition to my red poinsettias and apple decors. After I added the decors when I got home, I think my Christmas tree looks a lot better. The orange poinsettias match the seat cover of our living room set. I was happy with the result. I just wish we have a more spacious living room. I bought this 6 feet Christmas tree in Texas in 2003, a day after Christmas. It was on sale,  50% off and I bought it for $20. It was really a good deal. We shipped it here in PI when hubby and I decided to come here as missionaries in 2009. I plan to use it as long as it's still usable.

Here are some pics of our Christmas tree before I added the orange poinsettias and the tie or ribbon (I don't really  know what they call that thingy). It look so reddish and boring. I think the addition of orange flowers made the difference. Hubby took these photos 2 Sundays ago after coming home from church.

Protection Against Deadly Insect Bites

There are quite a few insects in our area but those that really bother me are mosquitoes, flies and ants. They are everywhere around our house. Though we have screen windows and doors but still the mosquitoes and flies manage to enter the house especially if we open the door. The ants are worst because they can enter through small cracks and openings. These small creatures really pose a threat to our health. My hubby had been a victim of mosquito bites and got sick of dengue fever a couple of months ago. I wrote about it here in my blog how he survived dengue fever. He was hospitalized and his platelet count went as low as 78. It made him so weak and so sick. I got so worried. I am so thankful that he got well after 5 days in the hospital. By the way, there were many patients with dengue fever in that hospital, young and old but mostly male. During rainy season, there's a dengue outbreak.

I don't want that traumatic experience to happen again to anybody in the family. It was so scary. We need something to repel those insects and that's where Insect Shield comes in. I should have known about this product before hubby got sick of dengue fever. He loves to stay outside so he should have a protection against the deadly bite of mosquitoes. There are two types of Insect Shield. First is the Insect Shield Repellent Apparel which has been proven and registered to repel mosquitoes, ticks, ants, flies, chiggers, and midges. The second one is Insect Shield Repellent Gear which has been proven and registered to repel mosquitoes, ticks, fleas, and flies. You can have both or just choose the one that's best for you. Insect Shield is also great product to give to your friends and loved ones this coming Christmas season. You will be giving them a gift for their health and protection.

Dining Out

Hubby and I are both foodies and we love to try different foods from restaurants in the nearby city where we buy groceries. We don't do it very often, maybe twice or thrice a month if the need arises. We've been to Hap Chan restaurant a few times but I haven't blogged about it yet. Now, it's time to write a personal review about this resto. A week ago, hubby and I went to dine there after our grocery shopping. The name itself, you can already tell that Hap Chan is a Chinese restaurant. The place is very clean and has a nice ambiance. It is decorated with Chinese decors. There are quite a few people dining there.

When the waitress came to give us the menu, it didn't take long for hubby to chose his order. He ordered his favorite fried squid, fried rice and iced tea. Every time we go there, he always order these. The fired squid is good for 1-2 persons and the fried rice is good for 2-3 persons so we just shared the fried rice. I ordered beef with mango because it's new in their menu list. I was just curious how it tastes. I didn't order any drinks, just plain water. We didn't order any dessert too because I know after eating all these foods, we're already full. Besides, most of their desserts are fattening.

When the foods were served, I asked the waitress to take our pic so I can post it here. She happily obliged. Hubby was already in a hurry to take the first bite but after he said the blessing. While we were eating, I tasted hubby's squid and in return I gave him some of my beef. Hmmm, yummy to the tummy!

So here's the verdict of the foods. The fried squid is really, really delicious. It's tender and I love the spicy vinegar dipping that goes with it. The fried rice is good but I had better. The beef with mango tasted good, only the beef is a li'l bit tough. It should have been cooked longer. I love the fried squid better. No wonder, hubby like it so much. He finished it off. Mine, I had to ask for a doggie bag and took it home with the left over fried rice.

Hubby's Birthday Celebration

Today is Sunday and it's my hubby's birthday. We had our church service and after church we went to eat at City Deluxe Restaurant and Bakeshop to celebrate his birthday together with my 2 brothers and their families, my ex-brother-in-law and 2 boys. Hubby didn't want to celebrate in the house because it's a lot of hassle to prepare and cook and clean-up afterwards. It's more convenient to dine out with just the family. Seven of us adults, 2 teens and 2 li'l girls rode the van and went to dine out.

I suggested to hubby that we'll celebrate his birthday at City Deluxe. Three weeks ago, hubby and I had a lunch date there and you can read it here. The reason I wanted to go back there is because their foods are yummy and priced reasonably. Since it's hubby's treat, I did the choosing of the foods for all of us. I just wanted to be sure that we will not go beyond the budget. First I ordered plain rice for the 10 of us pinoys and fried rice for my American hubby. I ordered 2 buttered chicken as suggested by the waitress because it's their bestseller, 4 orders of chop suey, 10 pork barbecues on a stick, 2 orders of pancit, iced tea for all of them and pineapple juice for me.

While waiting for my orders, I bought a cake for hubby from the bakeshop with my own money. I told him it's my gift for him. I think he likes it!

When our foods were served, we asked Jhun to say the blessing and then time to dig in. Everybody loves the foods. The buttered chicken was a hit and I loved the chop suey. The li'l girls love the pork barbecue but hubby said it was a so-so.

The iced tea was so sweet. It's good there were calamansi for the pancit and that's what they used to lessen the sweetness plus they added more water to their tea and it tasted a lot better.

Everybody were full and satisfied. My two teenage nephews ate the most. Kenneth had to unbuckle his belt to make his pants loosen up. Oh well, they're growing boys. After we ate our meals, nobody would want to eat the cake no more. They said, they are all full and bloated, lol! We took home the cake including the leftovers.

Happy birthday honey and many more to come. I love you more than words can say.

Thank God For Blessings

Unexpected blessings from a thoughtful friend arrived last Saturday via LBC. A friend from Texas was on vacation with her hubby in Angeles City and she sent me a message in FB that we will meet in Manaoag that same day. Unfortunately, I only read her message at night and I missed the opportunity to see her. I replied her message saying that I was really so sorry that I didn't read her message earlier that's why we didn't see each other. She asked me to send her my mailing address because she's going to send me something.

True to her word, after a couple of weeks a small package was delivered to me. I was so excited to open the box and see what's inside.

I got a knife and cut the packing tape and voila, I found these inside!

I have 3 shirts, 1 shirt for hubby, a wrist watch and sneakers for me. I so love everything and I am so thankful to God for giving me friends who don't hesitate to share their blessings to me and hubby.

Dress To Impress

I'm really attracted to long formal dresses though I don't own one. I just love looking at those women who wear it on formal gatherings. I wrote my thoughts about dresses in my previous post so if ever I will own an evening dress, I would like it to be simple yet classy. You don't have to wear skimpy or see-through clothes to look appealing. You don't have to show too much skin to be noticed. It's how you carry your dress that really counts. You can wear one of those stylish and elegant dresses from Dress First. They have a bunch of collections of different kinds of dresses like wedding dresses, cocktail dresses, evening dresses, bridesmaid dresses, etc. Just looking at their collections made me want to own one. In fact here are couple of special occasion dresses that really caught my eye.

A woman's outfit is not complete without wearing her favorite shoes. The color of the shoes should match the dress of course so it should be given a careful attention. Some prefer high-heeled shoes but not me. I can't walk with it. To each their own. Another part of the get up are shining jewelries but just don't overdo it. Simplicity is beauty as they say. Last but not the least is to carry a fashionable handbag or a clutch bag. So there you go. Ready to party.

My Dresses and Me

They said that you are what you wear. Our clothing is a reflection of what we are thinking and what we are feeling. Most of the time, I wear clothes that makes me feel comfortable especially when I'm at home. When I go to public places it's different. I wear decent clothes which reflects who I am. Before I became a Christian, I dress like the world but that changed now. How can you reach the lost if they see you dressed like the worldly people out there. I see a lot of women who profess to be Christians but wear indecent and very revealing clothes, very short shorts, plunging necklines and tight hugging clothes as if they're trying to show off their bodies or seduce the opposite sex.

I wear simple clothes. You may think I'm old fashion but who cares. I dress to please my Creator. I love flowery dresses too mostly made of cotton fabrics because they are cool. I always wear dress or skirt and blouse when I go to church. I want to look my best when I go to God's house. I don't buy expensive clothes. I think it's not practical. There are other necessities to think about. My wardrobe is full and I'm trying to thin it out and give some to those in need.

New Toys for Christmas 2013

I can't believe that Christmas is almost here again! We can feel it in the air. Christmas is the most exciting day of the year for me. It's the time of shopping and giving gifts to our friends and loved ones. As early as September, I am already scouting gifts for my nephews and nieces. I want to buy gifts that I know they will appreciate and will make them happy. My two nephews are already in their teens so they're past the stage where all they requested before were toys. It's my two nieces turn to collect toys. They're aged 5 and 6 year old kids and oh how they love toys. That's the reason why I'm in the look-out for new toys for Christmas 2013 so I will know what are the latest in the market.

So far, here are my top 5 picks for this year and I'm pretty sure my 2 nieces would love to have these for Christmas.

                                             1. LeapFrog LeapPad 2 Power -Pink '

My 5 year old niece loves to play with gadgets and I think this would be great for her. I'm pretty sure she would be so delighted to receive this on Christmas.  Kids can create, learn and explore things using this toy. It includes front-and-back cameras and video recorders. Draw and write on the 5” touch screen with included stylus. Truly, the learning fun never ends!

                                                    2. Minnie Mouse 3D Puzzle 72 Pieces

My niece love Minnie Mouse and I can already imagine her facial expression when she have this as a Christmas present. She love doing puzzles and doing it with her favorite disney character will add more fun.  This is really a great Christmas gift for young and old alike.

 3. Mega Bloks The Smurfs Playground Playset

Let the kids have fun with the Smurfs at the Mega Bloks® playground, hidden deep in the forest where they live in their magical village. Kids who love outside activities would surely enjoy this. What with the presence of a swing and a seesaw, along with a little slide attached to the sunshade area. This is great for girls as well as for boys too.

4. Furby Boom Sunny Polka Dots

This item is recommended to all children who love interactive toys. It is so cute and adorable, even cool for a boy, great designs and many features. The Furby Boom creature has a mind of its own, and the way you treat your Furby will shape its personality. Never had one like this before so does my 2 nieces. Hmm...I'm thinking to buy this for each of them for Christmas this year.

5. Sparkle And Glitz My First Make Up

This is a good start kit for any little girl who wants to play at make-up. Ideal for the budding model in any little girl.

Those are my top picks for my nieces for this coming Christmas. Need to save some money and then the shopping begins.
