I Am Officially A US Citizen!!!

It's a very special day for me today. I got to swear in as a US citizen this morning at Arlington Convention Center after 8 months of waiting since I filed my application. My hubby, Sherry and I arrived at the venue 30 minutes earlier than the appointed time. When we got in, the line was already long. I was surprised to see a lot of people who are going to be sworn in as US citizens. It took a while to wait to go in and turn in my green card. Then we were seated accordingly. My hubby and Sherry were already inside the Convention Center which was so spacious. The ceremony started at 11:00 AM so we had to wait. I looked around and I've seen many people inside. The number of people to be sworn in was 634 according to what Sherry has heard. A lot of people really wanted to become US citizens. The convention center was full of people. My hubby said maybe around 1500 people were there and that includes the family and relatives of the candidates for citizenship. When they announced the candidates by country, we had to stand and waved the little US flag that they gave us. The candidates were from 89 different countries and Mexicans were the majority, followed by the Arabs and Vietnamese. There were only 5 of us who are Filipinos.

The ceremony went on smoothly and there was a short program. My hubby was busy taking pictures and he was my official photographer and video man. After we were sworn in, they gave each of us our naturalization certificate. And after that we had a picture taking and then I went to get my voter's registration form. I want to vote and we were lucky because tomorrow will be the last day to mail in our voter's form. They also gave us the application form for US passport so we can secure our own passport if we want to travel. I would definitely get my US passport as soon as possible.

Then we went out of the Convention Center and oh my, there was a heavy traffic going out from the parking lot. Hubby drove out of Arlington, passed Fort Worth and we stopped by at Burleson to eat. I wanted to eat in a buffet restaurant because I was starving and my stomach was growling. We didn't have time to eat breakfast because we have to leave early. I requested my hubby that we go to Golden Corral in Burleson and it was already passed 1:00 PM when we ate our lunch. I was full after we ate but my stomach was heavy. It was like I had a heartburn, lol!
